Royal Brussels British 3 – 0 FC Irlande
FC Irlande suffered their first defeat of the season at the hands of bitter rivals and current league champions RBB.
After a cagey opening RBB began to gradually gain the ascendancy, and took the lead when the Irish defence switched off from a throw-in on the right. The ball was laid off nicely by RBB striker, and from the edge of the box their midfielder fizzed in a low shot that deflected past Jones and into the bottom corner.
The lead was doubled in the second half with an emphatic volley that flew over Jones, and when Cryans was penalised for handball in the box the win was sealed.
Missing four key players it was always going to be difficult for Irlande to get a result against a strong RBB side. What will be most disappointing, though, is the rather tame manner in which the defeat was inflicted. Apart from a brief period of pressure just after the break Irlande never got on top of the opposition, and created few chances throughout. While there were plenty of hard tackles there was very little possession and fluid passing. RBB, by contrast, moved the ball well and could have scored more.
Despite the loss, Irlande remain top by a point after Jefka and La Lorraine could only draw.
